Grown-Up Getaway… 99 problems and a kid ain’t one.

Picasso or Bust?

📍 Your home

Grab a pair of canvases and some paint (Dollar Tree FTW!), pour your favorite drinks, and sit directly across from each other for a date night where the real art is keeping a straight face.

The concept is simple: 20 minutes only and you each paint a portrait of your partner, but there is one crucial rule: absolute secrecy until the very end. Keep your easels angled out of sight, hide your palette moves, and resist the urge to peek while you attempt to capture their finest features (or accidentally turn them into a cartoon caricature).

When the timer runs out, line up the canvases for the grand, simultaneous reveal. Whether the final results belong in the Louvre or belong in the trash, you're guaranteed a night full of laughs, playful banter, and a hilarious keepsake to remember it by.

Yes, these are our portraits of one another. Lots of laughter happened in the reveal. Good thing neither of us is a professional artist!

Creamy Italian Sausage Pasta

THIS IS OUR FIRST SUBSCRIBER SUBMITTED MEAL! Big shoutout to Lucy, who helps run The Growing Kind, a local non-profit dedicated to building connection, understanding, and belonging for special needs families in our community.

In her own words, “This without-a-doubt one of the most simple, yet satisfying dinners - especially for us pasta lovers! Not to mention it takes under 30 minutes to prepare & serve. Double WIN!”

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Italian Sausage

  • ½ Onion (chopped)

  • 2 tsp. Minced Garlic

  • 1 can (14 oz.) Petite Diced Tomatoes

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream

  • ½ cup Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese (or more - have at it!)

  • 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning

  • ½ tsp. Salt (more or less to taste)

  • ½ tsp. Pepper (more or less to taste)

  • Pasta of Choice (cook separately)

1) Heat a pot of water to a rolling boil for the pasta. Cook separately while you sauté up everything else.

2) Sauté Italian sausage & chopped onion in a skillet until lightly browned.

3) Add minced garlic & sauté for a few more minutes.

4) Stir in heavy whipping cream & petite diced tomatoes.

5) Sprinkle in Italian seasoning, salt & pepper.

6) Stir & let simmer. Add freshly grated parmesan cheese just before mixing in pasta of choice.

7) Enjoy!

Some interesting local stories from the past week:

Cedar Crossing Casino hosting job fair - from Corridor Business Journal

That’s it for this week.

We really do like our friends and neighbors who are Hawkeye fans…. we just like Cyclone fans more.

Seriously though, no matter who you cheer for, Cy-Hawk week is a great time.

It is tough to beat some good nature ribbing between friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Keep the banter to PG-13 levels though, we don’t want little ears to pick up on your bad habits. 😉
